Getting started in Hamburg
Financing your studies
Studying costs money. The university of Hamburg does not charge tuition fees. However a semester contribution forms part of the university's financing scheme for AStA (student council) and Studierendenwerk (student services). The current amount is listed here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscenter/studienorganisation/studienverlauf/beitraege-gebuehren/semesterbeitrag.html
An overview of additional expected costs for student life in Hamburg can be found on Campus life at University of Hamburg. Here you can also find tipps on funding options and finding accomodation in Hamburg.

Moving to Hamburg
To find accommodation you have multiple options. You can apply for a dorm room at the Studierendenwerk. These rooms have long waiting lists, so apply early and check in at the Studierendenwerk regularly. Students in Germany often find rooms in shared flats through the website WG-gesucht where you apply directly to your roommates. Here it pays off to tailor your application. It is also common to use commercial housing platforms (Immowelt, Immoscout, etc.). For detailed information check out this link: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscenter/campus-leben/wohnen.html
