Climate Modelling
The climate modeling research group works to improve the understanding of the variability of the climate system through the use of global climate models. A particular focus is on the variability of the oceanic and atmospheric circulation, and in particular its predictability at seasonal-to-decadal time scales. On the scientific side, we work on the understanding of processes from the stratosphere to the deep ocean, including sea-ice and land surface. On the technical side, we work on the incorporation of observations into one or more components of the climate model (data assimilation) so that the employed climate model resembles the observed climate state and its tendency at the start of the prediction.
