Finding a thesis subject and supervisor

Students should look for a supervisor for their thesis themselves. 

Here are some ways to help you discover what you might be interested in:

• think about topics you came across in your lectures
• or in the literature
• which of your lecturers works in an exciting field?
• browse the websites of the different working groups in the department and find current research projects, publications, and past theses supervised
• go to thesis defences and seminar talks
• talk to people! your fellow students, to students of higher semesters, to senior researchers, professors, ...

When you found a group of potential interest, contact them and ask whether they still have supervisory capacities – they will be happy to discuss their research, make suggestions on open research questions and help define your own question based on you own interests.
