More and more climate models are capable of simulating abrupt climate transitions that resemble warming and coolig events which occurred during the last glacial period (Dansgaard-Oeschger events, 27.8 to 59.4 thousand years ago). Marlene Klockmann contributed a set of simulations with MPI-ESM to the very first intercomparison study of Dansgaard-Oeschger like climate variability in climate models. Simulations with MPI-ESM, HadCM3 and CCSM4 were compared in order to identify common controls on these climate transitions in climate models.
