This fascinating video documentary (almost 17 min) of a four weeks lasting sea voyage with the research vessel RV Meteor into the north Atlantic Ocean in September/October 2020 speaks for itself. It provides an easy-to-understand insight into the research topic also in connection with climate change and gives a substantial impression on the life and thinking of scientists onboard a little tiny floating needle in a huge oceanic haystack. Thirteen researchers and students from the Institute of Oceanography (IfM) joined the cruise.
The research objective of the cruise was to collect further evidence on the deep water exchange between Nordic Seas and the North Atlantic Ocean with one of the world's largest “submarine waterfalls”, which influences the exchange of water through the entire Atlantic Ocean (“AMOC”), and which is part of the so-called “global conveyor belt” connecting all oceans on Earth.
